Accommodation in Croatia
Students use dormitories in Zagreb and other university cities, or rent private rooms and flats.
Student Centres (Studentski centar) manage dorms by quota. Places are limited and are not automatic for international students.
Prices differ by city and room type, and utilities are often paid separately.
Rent depends on the size and location of the room or flat.

Good to know
- Contact your faculty’s International Office early, because dorm quotas are small.
- Utilities such as electricity, heating and internet are often paid separately.
- Eligible students can get subsidised meals through the student X-card (iksica).

Where students live
Zagreb’s Donji Grad (city centre) is within walking distance of many faculties but costs more. Split and Rijeka have their own student dormitories.
Before you pay or move
- Get the contract in writing and read the rent, deposit, notice period and which utilities are included.
- See the room in person or on a live video call before you send any money.
- Ask how much the deposit is and when it is returned.
- Keep your admission letter and a passport copy ready, because housing offices and landlords ask for them.
- Book a short stay for your first nights in case your room is not ready.
