Accommodation in Denmark
Student housing is limited, so apply early. Options include student residences called kollegier and shared flats.
Kollegier are purpose-built student residences. Rent often includes utilities and internet.
A room in a shared flat (kollektiv) costs less than a studio, and varies a lot by city.
Private rooms in Copenhagen are the most expensive, often with long searches.

Good to know
- Apply the moment you accept your offer, because dorm waiting lists in Copenhagen and Aarhus run for months.
- Landlords often ask for up to three months’ deposit plus up to three months’ rent in advance.
- Some rental sites charge a fee to contact landlords. Check the cost first.
Before you pay or move
- Get the contract in writing and read the rent, deposit, notice period and which utilities are included.
- See the room in person or on a live video call before you send any money.
- Ask how much the deposit is and when it is returned.
- Keep your admission letter and a passport copy ready, because housing offices and landlords ask for them.
- Book a short stay for your first nights in case your room is not ready.
